Dance music may have a reputation for uniting people from different classes, ethnicities and cultures, but many people have criticized the industry’s sometimes misogynist characteristics over the years. The misogyny has even gotten so bad that it’s led to one of the industry’s greatest photographers quitting completely.
Sarah Ginn, whose worked as the Fabric nightclub’s resident photographer for 10 years, announced in a tweet that she has decided to quit dance music photography due to misogyny and bullying she’s faced over the past three years. Also known for her work with Red Bull Music Academy, Defected Records and XLR8R among many others, Ginn revealed her talents will move to the corporate and production/events spaces after careful consideration. As a music fan who owns over 2,000 records, Ginn said, “this has been a very tough decision to make.” Ginn will photograph for Fabric, including at the club’s 18th anniversary event, through to the end of the year.
