Nightclub staff members across Europe are being trained on how to deal with sexual violence, and it’s about time.
The project, headed up by The Addictology Clinic in Prague and supported by European Commission is set to include nightclubs across the United Kingdom, Portugal and Spain. Prevention measures will be the instructors’ focus during the first stage of training. According to Mixmag, results from the first round are expected as soon as March 2019.
Hana Fidesova of the Addictology Clinic explains the importance of this type of training: “The environment of night entertainment is a place in which sexual violence often occurs. The highly sexualised environment and influence of alcohol or other addictive substances contributes to this.”
Recently, Czech Republic’s Interior Ministry made sexual violence a security strategy measure, and stressed the importance of helping fight against sexual harassment and abuse. This project comes as a way to combat sexual violence.
