For many years now, Ibiza has been a rousing party destination for dance music aficionados from across the globe with plenty of the biggest names in electronic music frequently performing on the islands. Unfortunately, authorities must feel that they’ve attracted a bit too many rowdy holiday goers as they’ve just requested to European Union (EU) that the EU consider banning alcohol on flights and airports.
In a statement, Pilar Carbonell, who is in charge of tourism for the local government of the Balearic Islands, called for “the central government and the European commission to ban the consumption of alcoholic drinks on flights and in airports.”
Carbonell also added that “the aim of the measure is to improve passenger security and also that of security forces in planes and airports in our islands, who are often faced with drunk passengers.”
While that probably won’t have many far-reaching implications for the amount of tourism to the island, you can still certainly bet that the flights there will be a bit less rowdy assuming the ban is implemented.
