Back in April, news got out that Disneyland Paris would host its first-ever EDM festival. Called Electroland, the festival announced Steve Aoki, Nervo, Michael Calfan and others would play during the inaugural event on July 8. A day ahead of the festival, publication Music Week conducted an interview with Raphael Aflalo, co-founder of brand entertainment agency and Electroland co-organizer My Love Affair to find out more details behind the Disneyland Paris music festival.
Disney Business Solutions, Disneyland’s Paris events sector, partnered with Aflalo’s My Love Affair company to organize and promote the festival. Aflalo revealed that Electroland directly targets the 18 to 25-year-old demographic, which has been shying away from visiting Disneyland Paris as of late. “[18 to 25-year-olds] probably went to Disneyland when they were younger but, when they are studying, they prefer to go to a club, so the idea is to combine both experiences,” Aflalo said. The festival begins at 4 p.m., giving attendees a chance to experience the rides first and enjoy the live music after.
Aflalo also revealed that there are plans to expand Electroland in the future to entice guests to purchase hotel packages. Aflalo said that while Disneyland Paris guests usually book tickets two to three days before a weekend visit, hotel packages the weekend of Electroland sold much farther in advance. My Love Affair, which Aflalo co-founded with David Guetta, aimed to sell 8,000 to 10,000 tickets for Electroland, and as of a few months ago, reports indicated half that amount had been reached.
In terms of booking the talent, Aflalo divulged that DJs were very interested in playing Electroland. “The feedback we received from DJs when we were inquiring about availabilities was that it would be a dream for them to play at Disneyland,” he said. He also revealed that Electroland’s production will include full visual mapping on the classic Tower of Terror ride. Electroland also ties into Disneyland Paris’ larger 25th anniversary celebration, honoring the park since it opened back in 1992.
