Terror Reid is here to stay and we couldn’t be happier about it!
Over just a few months, Getter‘s menacing alter ego has low key put out some of the best tracks of 2017. His shocking debut “UPPERCUTS” made an immediate statement, followed by his equally impressive tracks “WHO DAT?” and “FUCK EVERYBODY,” which further solidified his knack for spitting rhymes with a zero fucks attitude. Most recently, he impressed with “STORMIN THA GATES,” perhaps his strongest lyrical concoction yet.
In a super cool and revealing interview with “Sidewalk Talk,” Getter talks candidly about how a random studio session blossomed into his killer hip hop project, where it’s going, and how he wants to change the game.
“I remember I was in the studio with my homie and Andy Milonakis — as weird as that sounds. My friend was friends with him. My friend couldn’t rap so I was like, ‘Alright I’ll write you something.’ I wrote it and I was like, ‘Wait, that’s kind of tight.’ That was a couple of years ago. Then I started to kinda do it myself. ”
He first recorded a Terror Reid song as a “joke,” but took it seriously enough to keep going. Soon, he was writing thoughts down and his time spent in the studio started to stack up. “And, then I got to the point where I’m like, ‘Damn, I know how to do this better than any of these motherfuckers.’ That’s not me being a dick, that’s just — I’m confident in what I do,” Getter explains.
During “Sidewalk Talk” Getter touches on his favorite rappers, Necro, Eminem, and MF Doom, and how he wants to bring back the mentality and style of that whole era.
“I wanna make the old dudes sound new and the new dudes sound old. I wanna bring back to the good shit, because the new shit is cool but it’s not hip hop, dude — it’s rap. That’s cool, rap about your lean and your fucking Xanax and how much money you get, but at the end of the day I make shit that I wanna hear and that’s it.”
Ever since “UPPERCUTS” was released, the possibility of the producer’s new venture being just a temporary side project has been haunting our thoughts (until now). Getter has finally given us the reassurance we needed — Terror Reid isn’t going anywhere.
“I can see hip hop more long-term than EDM, and I would be more happy with it because it’s got replay value and people who will listen to it more. Instead of just putting out an EP, having people listen to it for a week, and ask you what’s next.”
“Next year is going to be a bunch of big Terror Reid stuff,” he says.
