This Club Just Banned DJs From Using Turntables and CDJs and We Really Don’t Get It

A nightclub in Berlin is banning the industry standard from its establishment — no DJs will be allowed to play on turntables and/or CDJs. Say what?!

We’re just as confused as you are… Liquid Sky Berlin just announced its plans to break the DJ mold in a very unconventional way:

“We are pleased to inform you that Liquid Sky Berlin does not represent ordinary DJ culture,” the official statement opens up.

Although the club means no disrespect to DJs, they are exclusively inviting those who utilize “other formats, unique styles, different thinking, alternative tastes, and emerging uses of both newer and older technology.”

Tapeplayers, short wave radios, Nintendo gameboys, PlayStation trackers, modular synths, computers, smartphones and tablets are all listed as acceptable methods to DJ with by Liquid Sky Berlin’s standards. So besides vinyl and CDJs, the sky is literally the limit.

There are two ways this can go… the club will book an eclectic mix of emerging talent or it will go out of business before it’s able to do so.

If you don’t believe us, just read the full statement here.
