Ed Sheeran Shares Feelings After Being Snubbed By The Grammys

The massive record-breaking success of Ed Sheeran‘s third studio album divide (stylized ÷) has been met with a surprising “snub” from the Grammys.

We say “snub” lightly, as the English singer-songwriter was nominated twice for the 60th Annual Grammy Awards — in the Pop Vocal Album category and Pop Solo Performance for his #1 hit “Shape Of You.” However, his big year in music wasn’t enough to earn him nods in either of the leading categories for Record of the Year or Album of the Year.

Recently, he appeared on The Ellen Show and discussed the issue:

“My outlook on it is, it’s just — some years you have your year, and some years you don’t have your year. And maybe this year isn’t my year.”

It seems he’s truly not letting it get to him:

“I’d rather have, like, a lifetime of people coming up to me, saying like, ‘This song affects me in this way, in a positive way, ‘This song was my wedding song,’ ‘This song was my first kiss’ than anything else.”

That’s a humble attitude to have, but it’s hard to believe “Shape Of You” isn’t one of the best songs of the year. Below are the noms in each top category for the Grammy awards (see full list here).

Grammys – Record of the Year

“Redbone” — Childish Gambino
“Despacito” — Luis Fonsi & Daddy Yankee Featuring Justin Bieber
“The Story Of O.J.” — Jay-Z
“HUMBLE.” — Kendrick Lamar
“24K Magic” — Bruno Mars

Grammys – Album of the Year

“Awaken, My Love!” — Childish Gambino
4:44 — Jay-Z
DAMN. — Kendrick Lamar
Melodrama — Lorde
24K Magic — Bruno Mars
