NYC New Years Eve: 5 Ways to Ring in 2018

Finding yourself in New York City for New Years? As appealing as being crammed into Times Square and watching a big ball drop sounds…here are 5 killer shows that will kick your 2018 off to a great start.

Gramatik with Big Wild, Ramzoid and Cobrayama

Likely to be the show this writer will attend. This show packs a double punch with openers Cobrayama, Big Wild, and Ramzoid. As live shows go Gramatik is one of the best. And with these top quality openers included, it’s a show not to be missed. Gramatik frequently includes funky live instrumentals with a combo of bass, glitch, and classic old-school samples. And for the hardcore Lowtemp fans, Gramatik will be blaring tracks from his newly released Re:Coil Part I. All things considered, it’s a prime blend for the ears with a stunning light show to match.

Where: Terminal 5 (610 W 56th St, New York, NY 10019)

When: Doors: 9:00 pm / Show: 10:00 pm

Ticket Price: $49.50 ADVANCE/$55.00 DAY OF SHOW

The Disco Biscuits

For those wanting to go on a fantastic voyage with The Disco Biscuits, they’ll be doing a four night residency at the Playstation Theatre. If you can’t make any of the shows, no worries, they’ll be streaming all four nights on YouTube. Tickets to these shows are still available but may dry up if last-minute Phish fans can’t make it to Madison Square Garden and are looking to get their ‘trance-fusion’ fix. Ultimately the great thing about their live shows is the seamless blending of electronica and jam music. If that’s what you’re craving, then get thee to these shows.

Where: PlayStation Theatre (1515 Broadway, New York, NY 10036)

When: Doors: 9:00 pm / Show: 10:00 pm

Ticket Price: $65 – $90

 David Guetta

An EDM classic. Arguably one of the biggest house artists ever. If you’re out with a big crew and want a show where everyone’s sure to have a good time, check out David Guetta at Depot 52 in Brooklyn. This venue is a favorite for popular EDM artists, as it’s got a warehouse feel that’s surprisingly intimate. The light show here is also sure to be spectacular. Also, this artist isn’t just for big crews, there’s a good chance that there will be plenty of singles at this show, in search of some midnight magic.

Where: Depot 52 Warehouse (7 52nd St, Brooklyn, NY 11232)

When: Doors at 8:00pm

Ticket Price: $119.99 – $199.00

Oliver Heldens

Oliver Heldens has a similar feel to Guetta, but stays true to more progressive house roots. This is a show that will hold you in it’s arms and take you away to a place that’s a little bit higher in BPMs and pin-pointed bass. If this style is calling to you then get over to Schmanski. For added convenience, this club is located in Williamsburg, so when it gets out there are plenty of great spots nearby to keep the party going.

Where: Schmanski (54 N 11th Street, Brooklyn, NY)

When: Doors: 10:00pm

Ticket Price: $47.20 – $139.00

Branchez

For a vibe that’s lots of fun, but maybe a little bit more of a wild card. Check out the Branchez show at Public Arts. He’s a great collaborator and mixes genres with ease. There are also influences of soul and hip-hop in his unique club beats. This venue could also mirror the Oliver Heldens show, in that it’s also an intimate space and after it lets out there are plenty of great places to party in and around the East Village.

Where: Public Arts (215 Chrystie Street, New York City)

When: Doors: 9:00pm

Ticket Price: $50.00 – $125.00
