Is this the end of Okeechobee? We sure hope not…
For last three years, Okeechobee Music & Arts Festival has put on an amazing, well-rounded annual event for tens of thousands of attendees. Organizers have consistently booked a diverse roster with some of the biggest names in music. Skrillex, Kendrick Lamar, Porter Robinson, Flume, Halsey, and Travis Scott have all taken the stage, and Bassnectar has become a staple for three years running. Most notably though, in just a short time, the community has grown into a beautiful family.
So, it’s beyond surprising to hear rumors of a possible end to such a top-notch music festival (as read here, here and here). According to The Festival Owl, there are some serious red flags popping up about the future of the event in Okeechobee, Florida. At this point, it’s unclear whether Okee will go on.
“There is concern now with no announcements, or tickets,” The Festive Owl just updated. “I have reached out to a (normally) very responsive source and they have not been able to confirm any plans for 2019.”
After an epic three years, Okee would most definitely be going out on top — but it would be a shame, considering how much music fans love it and the kind of culture the festival has cultivated. For many, it has become more than just another music festival, but a yearly tradition.
Previous lineup releases have announced as soon as October or November. Whether or not Okeechobee is actually happening can be neither confirmed or denied at this point, but we can expect answers coming soon. Keep your eyes on Okee’s official website.
