Passengers boarded Holy Ship! 13.0 yesterday from Port Canaveral in Florida, but not before being thoroughly searched for drugs and illicit materials. Part of the search process was conducted with drug dogs, leading to the near fatal reaction of one K9.
According to Brevard County sheriff’s spokesman Tod Goodyear, one dog was sniffing luggage and alerted officers to a baggie in which powder was found, which was determined to be ecstasy at a later time. A short time after finding the baggie, the dog began showing the effects of drug exposure.
Robert J. MacLean with the U.S. Marshals Office confirmed the incident and said that Narcan was supplied by a crew member aboard the ship. Federal agents at Port Canaveral do not carry Narcan. Writes WKMG, “[MacLean] said that is a problem, as agents can also be exposed to unknown substances or drugs.”
The dog was taken to a veterinarian and is now in stable condition.
Over a dozen people were arrested for offenses including drug possession before 12.0 set sail this past weekend. 13.0 returns on Saturday.
