If you haven’t heard, Groove Island is on track to set a new standard for festivals on the west coast.
It takes place on Catalina Island from September 27th – 30th and offers a lush paradise to explore, sand beaches, dance halls, bars, restaurants and a whole world of activities. The whole place has a certain Hollywood romance, breathtaking views, mountainous terrain, palm trees and plenty more to sink into, all without the horrible Hollywood air quality.
Here we look at some of the best things to do at the festival, and if you want to buy tickets for one, two or the whole three days then head to Tixr for the best deals.
Dance!
Of course, this is a music festival and it has a great line up. Chus & Ceballos, Mark Knight, Sam Feld, Shiba San, Andrew Rayal and Oliver Heldens are just some of the superstars serving up an on-point mix of house, techno and big room sounds with labels like Toolroom, Heldeep, Deep Space, Deep House Brunch, DJ Mag, Wicked Paradise, and Incorrect Music all hosting this town sure to be special events.
Catalina Wine Mixer
It started after the popularity of the Will Ferrell film Step Brothers, but Groove Island turns the energy up to 11 for this one. The much anticipated Wine Mixer includes fun, live bands, DJs, gourmet food and fine wine and will be a great way to spend an afternoon in the sun.
Explore
Stunning and unspoiled, Catalina Island is world renowned for its diverse and unique wildlife and it is said that there are more than 60 plant and animal species on the island that you will find nowhere else. As such, you should head out on a hike around the locale and up the stunning peak of Orizaba for amazing views down over the two harbors on the island.
Raise your pulse
There is a rich mix of sporting activities to delve into at Groove Island. Why not hop on the huge zip wire? You could also arrive to the whole event by helicopter? Or get involved with the golf tournament, try your hand at yoga, a rose course, jet skiing or head out on a guide ghost tour.
Experience the Grand Casino Ballroom
This historic place Grand Casino Ballroom has the largest circular ballroom dance floor in the world. To celebrate 100 Years of Wrigley’s Catalina (the chewing gum magnate bought the island a century ago) there will be some special themed parties including The Roaring 20s, so dig out your best art deco clobber and prepare to have some superbly stylish fun.
Groove Island is 97% sold out so you had better move quickly if you want to join in on the fun!
