Police had to be called to multiple McDonald’s restaurants this past weekend when thousands of Rick & Morty fans arrived, only to have their desire for Szechuan sauce denied. Reports indicate that many restaurants pulled out of the promotion last minute, or otherwise only had an extremely limited supply of the sauce. McDonald’s said that they did not anticipate the demand, and will now offer the sauce as a permanent fixture this winter – it is not clear if the sauce will remain after.
Rick & Morty co-creator Justin Roiland tweeted yesterday, “FYI: We had nothing to do with this McDonald’s stuff. Not happy w/ how this was handled. Please be cool to the employees it’s not their fault.”
