It’s official – Twitter is bumping up the character limit for all users to 280 characters.
Since its inception, Twitter has limited its users to 140 characters; however, since beta testing the new cap with select users, Twitter has seen more likes, retweets, mentions, and followers go to those users.
This could, of course, be due to the special nature of those users and the fact that they had something that others didn’t. It will be interesting to see what happens when all users have the function available for use. As Syndrome says, “When everyone’s super, no one is.”
Don’t worry if you can’t do it immediately, a company spokesperson cautioned that it could take up to two hours to take effect in all apps around the world.
In addition to more Tweeting, people who had 280 characters received more Likes, Retweets, @mentions, Followers, and were more satisfied with Twitter. So, you’ll be getting 280 too—enjoy!
