After an early evacuation warning was issued yesterday for Shambhala Music Festival, due to the nearby, McCormick Creek fire, the festival was forced to work with officials to determine the best course of action. Of course, no one wanted to see the festival close early – thankfully, it seems that luck is on their side.
In a statement posted to their Facebook not long ago, Shambhala organizers said that they consulted with the Regional District of Central Kootenay (the district where Shambhala is held), as well as local government and a fire behavioral analyst, and have determined that the festival will go on.
Compared to yesterday’s dry and windy conditions, today is damp and cool, greatly reducing the risk of fire reaching the property.
“We invite all our guests to stay and celebrate with us for the final night of our 20th Annual Shambhala Music Festival,” wrote organizers. “Music acts might not continue as scheduled, but we will have a new schedule for this evening. Stay tuned for updates.”
Anyone with a wristband still on may re-enter the festival. Sunday day tickets are being sold at $180 including tax. Follow the festival’s Facebook page for more info regarding updated set times.
