Legendary Guitarist and Co-Founder of AC/DC Dies at Age 64

It’s a sad day in rock and roll, as AC/DC has announced the passing of co-founder, guitarist, brother, and friend — Malcolm Young.

For the past three years, the 64-year-old musician had been suffering with dementia, which ultimately forced him into retirement.

Malcolm and his brother Angus Young formed the band back in 1973. AC/DC went on to release a long list of iconic rock songs including “You Shook Me All Night Long,” “Highway to Hell,” “Back In Black,” “Thunderstruck,” and so many more.

The Young brothers also lost George Young, their older brother, Easybeats guitarist, and longtime AC/DC producer, in October. He was 70.

In a heartfelt post from the band’s official social page, Angus described the legacy Malcolm Young leaves behind:

Malcolm, along with Angus, was the founder and creator of AC/DC. With enormous dedication and commitment he was the driving force behind the band. As a guitarist, songwriter and visionary he was a perfectionist and a unique man. He always stuck to his guns and did and said exactly what he wanted. He took great pride in all that he endeavored. His loyalty to the fans was unsurpassed.

As his brother it is hard to express in words what he has meant to me during my life, the bond we had was unique and very special. He leaves behind an enormous legacy that will live on forever.
