HTC and Motorola: We Don’t Slow Down Smartphones Like Apple

As Apple finds itself in legal trouble over “batterygate” (the slowing down of iPhones with older batteries), other smartphone brands are speaking out.

Both HTC and Motorola have revealed in separate emails to The Verge that they do not employ the same practices Apple has recently demonstrated.

HTC spokesperson simply said designing phones to slow down processing as time goes by “is not something we do.” A spokesperson from Motorola echoed, “We do not throttle CPU performance based on older batteries.”

Apple has come clean on its practices pertaining to iPhone battery behavior. Admittedly, the iPhone 6, 6S, and SE models have been slowed down in ways to prevent random shutdowns in aging phones — a problem commonly reported among users.

Despite Apple’s good intentions, many loyal iPhone owners are upset the company limited processor speeds in iPhones with no heads up and no “opt out” option. The innovative company has since been slapped with a $999 billion class action lawsuit.

That’s billion with a “b.”

Responses from Google, Samsung, LG, and Sony are also being sought after for comments following the Apple iPhone uproar.
