Sea Turtle Rescued After Getting Entangled In $53 Million Worth of Cocaine

During a 68-day Eastern Pacific counter drug patrol, the crew of U.S. Coast Guard Southeast retrieved $53 million worth of cocaine and rescued a large sea turtle in the process.

The innocent creature became entangled in dozens of bales of drugs as the intrusive objects floated straight into the sea turtle’s natural habitat. The poor guy (or gal) struggled to break free before eventually being freed by the U.S. Coast Guard.

By the end of the patrol, the crew had seized a total of 14,861 pounds (6,755 kilograms) of cocaine, 14 pounds of marijuana and apprehended 24 suspected smugglers, and saved this precious sea turtle from detrimental entanglement in the process.

Damn it people, stop throwing your cocaine in the ocean!
