Yes, yes, we know… “The Chainsmokers aren’t even EDM!” Except they are; the line between pop and EDM has just become more blurred than ever. Now that that’s out of the way, we can tell you that Billboard has released their list of 2017’s top 100 artists, and The Chainsmokers top the list for EDM artists at #6 overall.
Even though their debut album was widely panned by critics, it still managed to garner a lot of sales and pushed the duo up into the top 10 artists of 2017. The only artists that had bigger years, according to Billboard, were The Weeknd, Kendrick Lamar, Drake, Bruno Mars, and Ed Sheeran. Not bad company, if you ask us.
Only two other EDM artists made the top 100, both of whom are also quite pop adjacent: Calvin Harris at #70, and Zedd squeaking in at #100.
