Reports Expose AEG CEO Philip Anschutz’s Continued Donations to Republican Politicians & Super PACs In 2017

While it’s a new year, some things haven’t changed…

Around this same time in 2017 reports surfaced that AEG CEO Philip Anschutz, one of the big wigs behind Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival, donated tons of money towards groups that actively oppose LGBT communities and climate change. He denied such claims (see statement below), but now it seems we’re having déjà vu.

As The Fader reports, Anschutz has given $187,300 to various Super PACs and Republican politicians. This includes funds to Senator Cory Gardner, who came out as against gun control after the Las Vegas mass shooting; Congressman Scott Tipton, who opposes same sex marriage and abortion; US Representative Mike Coffman, anti-abortion advocate; Senator Deb Fischer, who is pro-life; and Speaker of the House Paul Ryan, who recently passed the controversial tax bill.

In recent history his biggest donations have gone to The Anschutz Corporation, which passed along $138,000 to the National Republican Senate Committee.

Last year, Anschutz released an official statement regarding the anti-LGBTQ claims:

“Recent claims published in the media that I am anti-LGBTQ are nothing more than fake news – it is all garbage. I unequivocally support the rights of all people without regard to sexual orientation. We are fortunate to employ a wealth of diverse individuals throughout our family of companies, all of whom are important to us – the only criteria on which they are judged is the quality of their job performance; we do not tolerate discrimination in any form.

Both The Anschutz Foundation and I contribute to numerous organizations that pursue a wide range of causes. Neither I nor the Foundation fund any organization with the purpose or expectation that it would finance anti-LGBTQ initiatives, and when it has come to my attention or the attention of The Anschutz Foundation that certain organizations either the Foundation or I have funded have been supporting such causes, we have immediately ceased all contributions to such groups.”

Another statement from Anschutz could be coming soon.
