Ultra Music Festival Stepping Up Security Ahead Of 20th Anniversary Event

As the first major electronic festival of the season (apart from CRSSD this weekend and Beyond Wonderland two weeks after that), Ultra sets an important precedent for the electronic music world. In terms of new music, new set configurations, stage designs, and security infrastructures, Ultra sets the bar for the rest of the year.

In the wake of Parkland and last year’s Las Vegas mass shooting, Miami and Ultra Music Festival are doing their best to step up security and ensure that any preventable tragedies are prevented.

“We’re always concerned. Safety and security is our primary mission,” said Ultra Chief of Security Ray Martinez. “Fortunately, Miami Police Department is a premiere law enforcement, and they put together some tactics and plans to guard against that and try to prevent anything from happening.”

Like Las Vegas’ Route 91 Harvest music festival, Miami’s Ultra is adjacent to many high rise buildings. Miami Police did not give any specific tactics or strategies they’d be putting in place to prevent a similar occurrence as Las Vegas, but they emphasized the importance of the community’s help.

“First thing is, if you see something, say something,” said Miami Police Commander Freddie Cruz. “Anybody in these buildings, anything suspicious, remember, call 911.”
