Pendulum Drops New House Remix Of Classic “Tarantula” From Icarus

Pendulum hasn’t had a lot of luck with their The Reworks album so far. Noisia’s remix of “Hold Your Colour” wasn’t close enough to the original for some, and Knife Party’s remix of “Blood Sugar” just plain wasn’t that good. So fans were hoping that the third remix, a house cut of “Tarantula” from Icarus, could turn things around. Did it? Well… kind of.

“Tarantula” has always been one of Pendulum’s highest-energy tracks, pumping out ragga vibes with decidedly massive drums and synths. Its amplitude never fails to turns dance floors into mosh pits with the high tempo and explosiveness, so to see it turned into a toned-down house tune is a little disappointing.

Don’t get me wrong, this track is perfect for those late, 4am sessions at the club when everyone is drunk and struggling to stay awake, but that’s about it. “Tarantula” could have benefited from a bass house or electro remix, but taking the energy down so far on arguably the highest-energy track on the album seems to be a mistake.

The album will still have other non-bass remixes from the likes of DJ Seinfeld and ATTLAS, but they’re on “Still Grey” and “Streamline,” respectively, far more appropriate tracks.
