Nicky Romero is sitting on a bunch of unreleased Avicii music that might not ever be released.
It’s a bittersweet thought, because while the producer would love to finish out and share their collaborations together — it just doesn’t feel quite right to him, putting out the unfinished and unapproved work.
In a recent sit down at Ultra Singapore, Romero revealed that he has “two folders full” of unreleased material from Avicii. Though others have expressed much interest in seeing those productions through to completion, Romero is very hesitant.
During the music festival he paid a touching tribute to Avicii during his set, something he’s done since his passing. He also opened up backstage on the difficult subject:
“I don’t know if it morally feels right to me to work on songs that the original composer have not approved.”
“I know that Avicii was really a perfectionist, and I kind of feel bad if I put something out not knowing if he really wants to put it out. So that’s kind of what holds me back, out of respect for him.”
In the same regards that Romero holds respect for Avicii, we respect him for making this tough call. No doubt, whatever these two would have made together would have been incredible.
RIP, legend.
